Nine Tips for Using an Elevator Safely

Elevators are one of the safest ways to travel, as long as they're used correctly. Here's what we advise every passenger:
- Don't overload the cabin — Keep within the maximum capacity shown inside.
- Don't force the doors open or closed — Keep hands, clothing and belongings clear of closing doors.
- Don't use the elevator in a fire — Take the stairs.
- If the elevator stops between floors, stay calm — Don't force the doors or try to climb out; use the alarm button or emergency intercom.
- Check that the cabin floor is level with the landing — Before stepping in or out.
- If something goes wrong — Use the emergency button or intercom; don't try to rescue yourself.
- No smoking — And no flammable materials inside the cabin.
- Report any unusual noise, vibration or smell — To building management or maintenance immediately.
- Don't lean on the doors.
All elevators are fitted with standard safety systems. In an emergency, stay calm and use the alarm button.
